Something a little different…
Have been sorting through some photos as I’m looking at getting a portfolio together, and I discovered this. I actually LOVE this photo, only problem is it’s a low-res file from where I got my negatives put onto CD at Jessops (I shouldn’t complain- I burnt the sodding disc myself!!)
This was taken just over a year ago on the Heygate Estate in Walworth. Since the estate has been shut down I have had a fascination with it, the sad deterioration, the lack of maintenance and, more recently, the increase of graffiti.
It used to be a bit more fun when most of it was still accessible, but in the winter they closed off the top levels (which was gutting, cos I wanted to sledge down the ramps in the snow,) and gradually more areas are being fenced off.
Even though my interest of this estate is relatively recent and I have no personal experience of its community before it was decided that it is to be knocked down, I really am going to miss it. It is not by any stretch of the imagination the prettiest collection of buildings, but it has character. It IS Walworth.
